About GCK
Innovative legal solutions, attentive to client needs.
Gensburg Calandriello & Kanter, P.C. was founded in 1994 as a boutique law firm originally focusing on tax, corporate and real estate matters. Our founding principles of personalized attention and a commitment to providing clients with high-quality legal services tailored to their specific needs are as relevant today as they were nearly 25 years ago.
Today, GCK has 10 lawyers with offices in downtown Chicago, Illinois. As a boutique law firm, GCK is small enough to provide clients with the personal attention they deserve, yet sophisticated enough to handle the most complex tax controversy or financial restructuring matter. GCK’s lawyers work hard to be accessible and deliver effective and knowledgeable advice, counsel, and value-driven legal services to clients. We are appropriately staffed and utilize technology and knowledge management to provide efficiency and reduce costs.
We value and understand the importance of earning our client’s trust every time we have the privilege to serve, and strive to and provide innovative and cost-effective solutions.

We also represent individuals, families, trusts, partnerships, and family offices. We work directly with executives, business owners and their in-house counsel, officers, directors, shareholders, and other professional service providers. We often serve as outside general counsel working closely with clients to provide a range of services tailored to each unique and specific need.
The scope of GCK’s practice has evolved over time to include: Tax Controversies; Corporate and Transactional Services; Bankruptcy, Debtor and Creditor Matters; Financial Structuring and Workouts; Estate Planning; Probate and Trust Administration; Real Estate; Business Asset and Equity Sales; Commercial Litigation; Employment; Intellectual Property; Sports and Entertainment; Asset Protection Planning; Tax Exempt and Nonprofit Entities; and Tax Planning.
A large part of GCK’s client matters include the representation of taxpayers before various taxation authorities on all types of matters, including audit and collection issues. GCK also consults and advises on tax planning considerations for all types of business transactions and provides a unique perspective based on our vast experience in dealing with the Internal Revenue Service and Illinois Department of Revenue in the areas of audit and collection.
GCK has developed a range of corporate and transactional law services which include core service areas such as business formation, employment matters, intellectual property, and real estate law. The practice has also evolved over time to reflect the changing demands for new service areas to support business enterprises such as emerging companies, sports and entertainment businesses, and tax exempt and nonprofit entities.
Wealth preservation for business owners and high-net-worth individuals is of paramount concern to GCK’s lawyers and requires the knowledge and understanding of a myriad of complex legal issues which impact the important areas of asset protection planning, estate planning, probate and trust administration and tax planning. GCK’s lawyers have extensive experience working across the suite of private client services and wealth preservation matters on behalf of business owners and individuals. GCK’s private client services and wealth preservation practice assists clients with their estate plan needs, with capabilities to handle both contested and non-adversarial estate and trust administration.
With nearly 30 years of legal experience in bankruptcy, financial restructuring, workouts, and commercial litigation matters, GCK’s litigators advise secured and unsecured lenders, lessors, creditors’ committees and debtors in all phases of corporate reorganizations and debt restructuring. GCK’s lawyers manage cases involving the negotiation of settlement agreements, civil lawsuits, Chapters 7, 11 and 13 bankruptcy filings, collections, and post-judgement enforcement.
Although we strive to resolve commercial disputes amicably and in the most economical way possible, we recognize that litigation and other forms of dispute resolution are often required to produce the desired outcomes related to contractual matters and other business disputes. GCK’s commercial litigators are seasoned lawyers with experience working across a broad array of industries on litigation matters.
